Genesis: A glimpse into the MSME Landscape

1. As per 2023 statistics, there are 633 lakhs MSMEs out of which 630 lakhs are micro enterprises, 3.5 lakhs small businesses, and the rest are medium-sized businesses.
2. Besides challenges like finance, infrastructure, and regulatory changes, MSMEs face concerns over low productivity, lack of innovation, competition, skills, lack of professionalism, and lack of standardized processes.
3. Notable schemes by the government for MSMEs include easy loan disbursal, guaranteed loan amounts, employment generation, promoting entrepreneurship among women & underprivileged sector entrepreneurs, financial assistance to participate in industrial fairs, etc.
4. In terms of building skills and competencies for MSMEs, the government runs training and mentorship programs through NEDP (National Entrepreneurship Development Programme) and ATI (Assistance to Training Institutions) scheme.
